There have been recent developments in my life which are taking me back home to San Diego in March or April 2010, which gives me just a couple months more than a year remaining in Japan. What better an opportunity to lay out a study battle attack plan?
A month and a half ago, I went through an eight-day-long study binge, and I was very satisfied with the results from the week-long, intense session. (Here) I felt the progress, and it wasn’t subtle. So imagine how much progress I’ll get out of a year.
Of course, the entire year is a “timebox outline”. More important are the smaller timeboxes I focus on daily. But, as a motivational boost through self-competition, I’m going to engage the time with a conscious battle plan of action to be as fully aware as possible of my own development in the language.
First (and more importantly, currently) on the list – Finish up reading the incredibly long-titled
17歳のための世界と日本の見方―セイゴオ先生の人間文化講義, and then move on to another book in Japanese on human culture and social development, and then on to some much-less-exciting advanced grammar books for test prep.

I did a search for any other references to that book (17歳…) on your site but didn’t find any. Had a quick look on Amazon and it seems highly regarded, but how have you found it? Worth a read?
Maybe a review is a good subject for another post?
Good work with the 8-day intense session – I read all your posts – and I’ll be following your future year-long one, while hopefully grabbing some hints to give myself a good kick up the arse too, ha! Good luck!
I’m only about half-way done right now, but some of it is pretty entertaining. It’s easy to understand because of the audience that it targets. I disagree with a couple of points brought up, but they weren’t necessarily major themes and, more importantly, they don’t seem to be an area that セイゴオ先生 focuses on for research, so I just ignored them.
I’ll most likelyy do a write-up on it when I finish it.
I hope your wife and kid are let into America too! Kibishi country.
I doubt we’ll never run into each other now…
We’ll meet up before I leave. It’s
