Go on a one-week study binge

by Alex

I’ve only got one more week of work left until my two-week winter vacation officially starts, so I thought, “What perfect timing for a week-long binge study session!

What I’m going to do is spend every free second in study throughout the week. I’m going to be reciting Japanese as I shampoo my noggin. I’ll be powering through meals with a book in front of me. And I’ll spend just 15 minutes documenting my daily schedule on this site for a week straight.

Here’s my basic setup:

Items are:

  • Computer
  • Anki
  • Smart.fm
  • Scratch paper
  • Pen
  • Timer
  • Coffee
  • 隣のトトロ

Most of my studying is done on a computer (the exception is sociology of which I study from a mammoth blue book). For language my primary tool is my Anki SRS, but lately I’ve been using Smart.fm a lot more.

The scratch paper and pen are for maximizing my memory focus, priming it for retention. The timer is for timeboxing my study sessions. The coffee is my mental acuity potion. The Totoro is at my 隣 to keep me company with his awkward, monstrous smile.

For the rest of this week all of my updates here will be brief and regarding my one-week binge study session records. Why not try out a study binge of your own before the holidays start? (A time when we find ourselves doing other sorts of binging)

Let the week-long study binge program commence!

I’ll be starting my binge today too, even though it’s not really a binge. I have my finals on Jan 7 and 8 so I have lots to do!

All right! No hesitation, just jump right into it! That’s what being a master of studying is all about.

We should get that aozora bunko text reading group back together again. That was motivating.

Yeah, I’m considering setting something up on this site, but I’m busy at the moment. I’ll let you know when I get something off the ground. Maybe we can go through readings and present our own translations on short works or something.
